Halving

A halving is a pre-programmed event that occurs every few years in the Bitcoin network. It involves reducing the mining reward that Bitcoin miners receive for verifying transactions by 50%. This event is designed to control the issuance of new Bitcoins and to ensure that the supply of Bitcoin is limited. The last Bitcoin halving occurred on May 11, 2020, and the next one is expected to occur around April or May 2024.
